You want good life – read this

We, all, have dreams – not necessarily the ones that we dream in the teens and twenties but the wishes that we want to be fulfilled. Many of those are very simple like meeting a boy or a girl! What about dreams liking wanting a BMW or a Ferrari?

There is no magic bullet – and there are no short cuts unless you are born into a rich family. We have to work hard. Develop skills that pay high and have a steady projected demand in the job market. During the recent recession, programming jobs did not shrink and the salaries did not decline. This is a good example.

If you are still in school, you task may be easier – get the high school diploma with good grades. Master subjects like mathematics and science. This is not difficult except that you have to study harder – if you do not get the grasp, give up on watching TV and try even harder. If you still do not get it, give up sports but get a firm grip on the subjects. Seek help from teachers, become smarter, and research on the Internet.

Use a search engine like Bing or Google and find out what jobs are paying the highest and now start reading what would entail to get into such a job. The point is that you have to start focusing on your options at an early stage. Remember, life is all about having options – if you have a skill, you have one option – if you have multiple skills, you have multiple options. If you go to a good University and get a good degree, you will have always the option of leaving one employer and getting another job immediately but if you fall for the average, the average offers may be made to you. And “average life options” and not “good life options” may be available to you.

Task is that you have to start liking this because it will get you good life. There can be no deviation – your target of education needs to be fixed with the objective that you want good life and to that end, means necessary would be facilitated. You have to break the stereo type and start thinking when you are in high school!

Keep in mind that you go to school only once and you cannot erase your grades! Just the way a sprinter lunges forward and puts everything in trying to reach the finish line, school is a marathon in which every day is a sprint where you owe it to yourself to stretch yourself the most to make the best out of opportunity.

There is no job that you cannot get trained – if Indians can be good programmers, Americans can be very good – it is a matter of focus and applying ourselves. This is just an example. At all times, you can, objectively, follow a path which will get you there – to have a good life.

Education and Career

Most students in US get their education in what they like to. And that’s great! Problem arises when the education they receive does not enable them in the job market.

As a parent any Indian or Chinese will tell you that their kids get education only in a field that would be in demand when their child gets out of college. Further more the difference is that Indian or Chinese parents are likely to support or fully fund their child’s education whereas American families do not.

There seems to be a need to adjust the thinking about education and career. Parents can provide guidance and financial support and expense on education needs to be viewed as an investment for the family. This will make American kids compete better and have an objective approach. We need a dialogue to start!
