Most students in US get their education in what they like to. And that’s great! Problem arises when the education they receive does not enable them in the job market.
As a parent any Indian or Chinese will tell you that their kids get education only in a field that would be in demand when their child gets out of college. Further more the difference is that Indian or Chinese parents are likely to support or fully fund their child’s education whereas American families do not.
There seems to be a need to adjust the thinking about education and career. Parents can provide guidance and financial support and expense on education needs to be viewed as an investment for the family. This will make American kids compete better and have an objective approach. We need a dialogue to start!
